As we navigate the ever-changing circumstances of this pandemic, the Rocky Mountain Section Board continues to review the safety of Section activities, under the guidance of our provincial health authorities.

On December 8th, the Province of Alberta introduced stronger measures to reduce the spread of COVID that will remain in effect until no earlier than January 12th.  Details of these enhanced public health measures can be found on the Government of Alberta website:

At this time, all outdoor physical activities are limited to groups of 10 or less; however, we will be recommending that our trip leaders further reduce the capacity of their trips to better facilitate physical distancing, ease risk management, and reduce the burden on backcountry parking areas.  We expect that this precaution will lead to trips filling up more quickly than usual, and would encourage you to register early for any trips that may interest you.

We are also strongly recommending against carpooling, and ask that members register only for trips within their local area.

We are grateful for your understanding and patience as our volunteer trip leaders work to incorporate these changes into their planning, and to our volunteers for their tireless efforts.

As the situation evolves, the Board will continue to monitor for new public health orders and advisories to ensure the safety of our Section activities.  If you have any questions regarding this announcement, please don’t hesitate to reach out to one of the Rocky Mountain Section Board Members.

This holiday season will be an unusual one for many of us, but we wish you and your loved ones the best of health as we look forward to a brighter New Year.
